Producent: Taschen
Walter Chandoha, a legendary 20th-century pet photographer, managed to embrace both the world of cat and dog enthusiasts. With a career spanning over seven decades, he appreciated these captivating animals for their distinct charm and individuality, capturing them through his lens. While crafting his well-received TASCHEN book, "Cats," Chandoha also collected his finest dog photographs, carefully preserving hundreds of contact sheets, prints, and color transparencies. Sadly, Chandoha passed away in 2019 at 98, but his remarkable work lives on in this vibrant sequel highlighting our canine friends. In the introduction, photography critic Jean Dykstra emphasizes Chandoha's mastery, noting how his skill enhanced the innate allure of dogs. The book features terriers, collies, beagles, and many more, encompassing over 60 breeds in both black-and-white and vivid Kodachrome. The photographs, taken over 50 years, are organized into six sections showcasing Chandoha's extraordinary blend of technique, adaptability, and emotion. From formal studio portraits in "In the Studio" to lively shots in "Out and About," and nostalgic dog shows in "Best in Show," each chapter offers a unique look into canine life. "Tails from the City" captures dogs navigating the streets of mid-century New York, while "Country Dogs" brings us back to nature. "Dogs" is a heartfelt homage to these endearing and steadfast companions.
